Restoring Mayfield’s Wildflower Meadows

Are you interested in restoring wildflower meadows here in Mayfield? Would you like to join in and learn about flower and tree species and how to grow them from seed? This spring and summer do you want to be out in our beautiful countryside helping to preserve it?

With the Mayfield wildflower volunteers you can do all of the above.

Spring is here and White Peak Farmers are planning to restore more wildflower meadows in the area as well as planting trees and restoring ponds.

This year we will be working on 4 farms in Mayfield, Hulland Ward, Okeover and Grindon village. We have a great team of local volunteers and are looking formore people to join in the fun. We will be surveying meadows and hedgerows for flowers and trees which will give you the chance to brush up on your identification skills. No experience is needed and you can learn on the job. Last year we grew lots of wildflower plug plants which need planting out in the fields this year and we will be collecting more seed to grow more plants.

It’s a good opportunity to explore some local farms, meet the land owners and learn how we are improving the farm environment and increasing wildlife. We usually meet at weekends but plan to go out on some weekdays depending on the availability of volunteers. We usually meet at our base in Middle Mayfield where we grow our plants but often go out onto other farms surveying or collecting.
