And that must include just about all of us!

Now read on below where Catherine Mellor tells of how we all came together to prepare messy church and create Messy Church in a Bag Revd.

Messy Church……in a Bag?

Although the start of the Mayfield, Ellastone and Stanton Messy Church was not, due to a certain pandemic and a little virus called Covid, quite as the team had originally envisaged and planned it, the first session went quite well. Rather than having a session with activities set out in the Church Rooms to invite people to come and enjoy, we decided to take Messy Church into people’s houses.

Each member of the dedicated Messy Church team produced an activity which could be done at home and these were then packed into bags to send out to families in the area. James and Mark Hemming, accompanied their Mum Sarah, to help with the session of preparing the bags and were the youngest helpers in the Messy church team. They said “we like Messy Church, we have fun doing it and the bags are so cool!”

When asked if they minded helping the adults to get the bags ready they replied “it’s kind to help”.

Each bag contained activities relating to the story of Jesus calming the storm. Little did we know when we planned the kit in January how prophetic it would be with recent weather in the UK.

Activities for the families to do at home included a ‘make your own windsock’ kit, information on the different types of cloud so families could go ‘cloud spotting’, instructions on how to make a paper boat and a delicious recipe which when cooked actually looked like clouds! A total of 40 bags were prepared and distributed to families in Mayfield, Ellastone and Stanton.

Feel like your family have missed out on a Messy church opportunity? Don’t panic! Messy Church starts on March 26th . Contact us and come and join us. Look forward to seeing you there.
