Easter week is the most important time in the church’s calendar starting with Palm Sunday running through to Easter Sunday with services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. On Easter Sunday a congregation twice the size of a normal Sunday congregation heard our new Archdeacon Megan Smith preach for the first time at Easter in her new role in the Diocese of Lichfield and as well as a timely sermon, Megan also brought Easter chocolate that the youngest member of the congregation found and distributed to one and all.
As well as chocolate, the congregation also enjoyed beautiful Easter lilies that decorated the church. Easter lilies are a tradition at the church for Easter Sunday placed that in memory of loved ones who passed away and donations were made by people across Mayfield to provide the most beautiful displays in the church. They did not disappoint and added a timeless and spiritual quality to Easter.
Another tradition is the creation of the Garden of Gethsemane complete with tomb and this was beautifully created by Margaret Mansfield
